Kids Free Pizza Night
The Vinton Presbyterian Church is hosting a free pizza night which will be held in the basement on Wednesdays 5 to 630 for ANY KIDS ages kindergarten to 5th grade.
Parents are more than welcome to stay and if parents have ideas for games or activities please feel free to join the fun!!
Vinton Women's Club Teacher's Reception at Ray House today
The Vinton Women's Club will hold its annual Teacher's Reception today, Wednesday, August 25, at the Ray House. The reception will be held from 3:30-5 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend to welcome new and returning teachers for the Vinton-Shellsburg district.
Benton County Development Group Announces contest winners
BENTON COUNTY – Benton County residents have shared their photographic skills by taking pictures of people, events, and places throughout the county and submitting them to the “Photos of Benton County” contest. You can vote for your favorite photos at www.bentoncountyiowa.com; until Wednesday, August 18th at 3:00 pm; however, you can vote in person on August 19th until 3:00 pm at Fifth Street Koffee Haus (102 East 5th Street, Vinton).
Faith Baptist Church invites public to take sign language classes
Free sign language classes open to the community are being offered at Faith Baptist Church, 911 D Avenue, Vinton.
These classes will be available on Sundays, beginning August 22 at 5pm and Wednesdays, beginning August 25 at 6:30pm.
Missionary to the Deaf, Maria Podbereski, will be the instructor for the classes which will last for 8 weeks.
Pastor Collins invites anyone desiring to learn sign language to attend.
Time for Sunday School in Brandon
Sunday School at Brandon United Methodist Church is starting on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at a new time, 10:00 a.m.
Classes are available for pre-K through adult.
There will be a special kick-off rally and breakfast on Sunday, September 12, during the regular Sunday School time for children and their families. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet the teachers and the other people who attend Brandon United Methodist Church.

Sunday School begins Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church with learning opportunities for pre-K through adult.
Worship begins at 8:30 a.m. with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome to join us!

Above the Influence Kicks off new school year
Welcome back, everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful summer! School’s about to start, which means it’s time to kick off Above the Influence coalition meetings again. Our first meeting of the year will be THIS THURSDAY (8-19-10) at noon at the ISU Extension office in Vinton (501 1st Ave). Join us to help prevent underage drinking and drug use in Benton County.
Stop for lunch on August 21, and help the Vinton Youth football
There will be a fundraiser for the 4th, 5th and 6th grade Vinton Youth Football.
It would be nice to see the entire community come out and support the future of Vinton football.
There will be burgers and dogs, chips and pop and it's all a free will donation!

W2L (Women to Leadership) Conference plans are made
The Women to Leadership conference will be held September 18, from 9:30-4:00 p.m. at the Belle Plaine Community Center.
The center is located at 1309 5th Ave. in Belle Plaine.

American Legion Post 57 to hold Fish Fry Friday night
